Ustadha Amina Sheikh
Ustadha Amina studied medicine at the University of Liverpool. Alongside her undergraduate medical studies, she completed the three year Micro Madrasa programme, studying at the hands of traditional scholars including Shaykh Ibrahim Osi-Efa and Ustadha Nagheba Hayel, and Shaykh Haroon Hanif, who in particular has encouraged her to teach.
She continued teaching throughout University with the Islamic Society, whilst also serving as the Vice President. Following graduation from Liverpool University, and the Micro Madrasa in 2015, Amina returned home to Manchester, where she went on to teach several courses with Quba Initiative.
She has taught various courses previously including Essentials of Belief, Purity and Prayer, Menstruation, Zakat, and Funeral rites. She also teaches an annual programme on the rules of female purity in the Micro Madrasa, having spent a significant length of time studying advanced menstruation rules with several different teachers.
Later on, she also completed the three year Arabic Madrasa programme and continued her studies privately after this.
At present, Ustadha Amina lives in Leeds with her husband, and works as a GP. She teaches with Rawdah Trust, an organisation based in Leeds, who provide Islamic education for the local community. In her religious studies she is currently focusing on Arabic and Islamic law.
